Achievements
Since its establishment, Women in STEAM Initiative has made significant strides in empowering girls and young women across Kenya through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education. The organization’s impact continues to grow nationally and internationally through innovative programs, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
1. Empowering Girls and Young Women in STEM
Women in STEAM Initiative has trained and mentored hundreds of students through STEM bootcamps, workshops, and mentorship sessions, equipping them with hands-on digital and technical skills such as coding, robotics, 3D technology, and virtual reality.
2. Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations
The Initiative has built strong collaborations with reputable organizations including:
Deloitte – Partnered to mentor over 200 students during Deloitte Volunteer Day.
African Union – Selected to partner under the Citizen Engagement and Capacity Strengthening Programme as part of the 1 Million Next Level Initiative in May 2025
Eco TRN – Partnered to introduce Virtual Reality (VR) learning for green jobs and STEM education in Kenya.
Morning Bird Space (Flashforge) – Supported with App Bot and printable STEM robot kits for robotics learning.
Red Pitaya – Partnered to enhance access to electronic engineering and physics learning kits.
Intelsat STEM Space Program – Collaborated to expand access to global STEM learning resources.
3. Innovative STEM Programs
The Initiative has launched creative programs such as:
STEM Storytelling Competition – Inspiring students, especially girls, to explore STEM career pathways through storytelling and mentorship.
Hands-on STEM Exploration Bootcamps – Offering interactive learning experiences in robotics, coding, and design thinking.
Curriculum Development – Created a three-level STEM training curriculum introducing coding (Arduino, Scratch), robotics (Otto), and VR in education.
4. Recognition and Leadership
The Founder and CEO, Caroline Nyaga, has received multiple nominations and recognitions for her outstanding leadership and contribution to STEM education, including:
Being named among Kenya’s Top 40 Under 40 Women by Business Daily Africa, a prestigious recognition celebrating impactful young leaders shaping Kenya’s future.
Other national and international nominations recognizing her efforts in advancing girls’ and women’s participation in STEM fields.
Our Founder listed among Africa's Tech Power List in 2025 by Crest Africa
Our Founder received the Social Entrepreneurship and Excellence Award at the Year of Return Africa (YORA) in 2025
Our Founder received the Zuri Awards under STEM Category for her work in empowering Women and Girls in 2026.
5. Global Opportunities and Grants
Women in STEAM Initiative received a grant from The Tony Elumelu Foundation to launch projects that promote digital literacy and STEM skills among girls and youth in Kenya.
6. Advocacy for STEM Readiness
The Initiative is partnering with Echo Network Africa Foundation (ENAF) to assess the preparedness of education stakeholders for STEM integration in schools, with a focus on empowering girls in Grade 9 and beyond through mobile STEM labs.
